Lingerie FAQ

These days, when people think of lingerie they immediately imagine a short, soft, delicate, and very sexy and revealing under garment. Women nowadays have a wide array of choices when it comes to lingerie. There are a number of lingerie shops and brands that can cater to every woman’s needs when it comes to feeling and looking sexy inside the bedroom. Women can just name a color, size, cut, design, style, and price, and they can have what they want in a flash. But when did women really start wearing lingerie?

Lingerie history can be traced around the last part of the 19th century. Though some experts would say that women during the ancient times are already known to wear lingerie or a type of underwear but more women are believed to have started wearing under garments during the late 19th century. This is actually also a very meaningful time for all women back then, since it is their freedom from those very tight, uncomfortable, and constricted corsets. But the lingerie history and the reasons behind the emergence of brassieres, panties, and other types of under garments like girdles and so on are basically for three things to provide support, hygiene, and modesty.

The lingerie pieces back then according to the lingerie history are what most women call these days as grandmother’s underwear. These are huge, unadorned, and made of one kind of material only which is often cotton. The lingerie history tells us that women in the past do not really give a lot of attention to their underwear. And as the early 20th century came, all of these changed and women were introduced to a more feminine and beautiful underwear or lingerie.

Lingerie history can be a story of evolution and freedom. Modern women can read about the lingerie history and feel very lucky that they never have to be forced to wear corsets or anything for that matter, especially if it is against their will. Although society still plays a very big role in women’s fashion, at least now women have a voice and when they speak other people listen.
